Lenses

Q. What are scratch resistant lenses?

These lenses have a clear coating which protects the lenses from everyday excessive scratching.

Q. Your website states scratch resistant lenses are FREE as standard is that true?

Yes. These coatings costs approximately £15 extra from your high street Optician but we supply them as standard.

Q. What is anti reflective coating?

These lenses have a clear coating which reduce surface reflections and cut out glare. The resultant effect is fewer distractions off your lens surface and an improved appearance of your lenses. They are ideal for:
  • night driving
  • computer users
  • any industry that requires minimal reflections off the lens surface

Q. What is UV protection?

These lenses have a clear coating which helps protect the eyes from the suns harmful UV rays. UV radiation can lead to numerous eye disorders, such as:
  • Cataracts (create links to advice section)
  • Macular degeneration (create links to advice section)

Q. Do I have a choice of thinner and lighter lenses?

Yes. You can upgrade from our standard lightweight CR39 plastic lenses either our 'thin and light' or ‘super thin and light’ lenses where we use 1.6 or 1.67 high index lenses respectively.

Q. What are high index lenses?

These lenses have thinner edges and centres compared to lenses of the same prescription made from standard lightweight CR39 plastic lenses. The resultant effect is that they are extra thin and comparably more lighter, so they're more comfortable to wear.

Q. Should I opt for high index lenses?

We recommend high index lenses are recommended for:
  • People who prefer a thin and comfortable lens option
  • Prescriptions for a higher power range to give a better appearance
  • Rimless frames as they provide a superior strength

Q. How thin are high index lenses?

Compared to our standard lightweight CR39 plastic lenses:
  • 1.6* index lenses are 25% thinner
  • 1.67* index lenses are 40% thinner

Please note we recommend an anti reflective coating on all high index lenses as they reflect more light than normal lenses due to their unique optical properties.

* Approximations only.

Q. Do you sell prescription sunglasses and other tinted lenses?

Yes. When ordering you will be offered the opportunity to select from a wide variety of tint colours and specify the varying tint darkness.
  • Light (80% light transmission*) fashion tint
  • Medium (50% light transmission*) general all round
  • Dark (20% light transmission*) bright conditions and sensitive eyes

Please note 100% light transmission is completely clear and 0% light transmission permits no light to pass through (solid).

* Approximations only.

Q. What are polarised lenses?

These are sunglass lenses which provide maximum protection from reflectance glare and the sun’s UV rays. They improve visual clarity, provide an enhanced ability to perceive contrast and improve depth of perception. Ideal for
  • sun wear
  • driving especially in wet conditions or when the sun is low overhead
  • water and winter sports
  • fishing
We offer a FREE scratch resistant and UV protection coating on all our photochromic and polarising lenses.

Q. What are Photochromic/Transition Lenses?

These are lenses which react to the UV component in sunlight getting darker in the sun and returning to clear once out of the sun or indoors. They are ideal for most people’s everyday hectic lives by reducing the inconvenience of carrying around an extra pair of prescription sunglasses.

We offer a FREE scratch resistant and UV protection coating on all our photochromic and polarising lenses.

Please note that these lenses are generally not suitable for use inside cars when driving, as windscreens absorb the UV light used to make photochromic lenses work.
